A review of Loveabye Dragon
by Kennedy Freiberg, age 12
Loveabye Dragon at First Stage is a musical about a lonely princess who longs to have a dragon and to go outside and see the world—but her overprotective parents won’t let her. She goes to bed one night and cries magical tears that bring a dragon to her. The musical follows her and her new dragon and all the adventures and challenges they face.
I would like to compliment the costume designer, Daryl Harris. I really liked Girl’s costume, since I think it truly fit her character and also looked comfortable to dance and act in! Also the Troubadour's costumes were really cool. I saw everyone had matching Converse for their costumes and it made the experience that much better.
I also would like to give a shout out to the puppet designer, Brandon Kirkham. All the props were so cool, but specifically, I really liked the dragon! The puppet was so big and so detailed. I assume it took a very long time. I also think the little dragon puppet is so cute!
The last thing I would like to shout out is the performance of Lainey Techtmann, who played Girl in the Magic Cast. She did so well in that role and her acting was so good. When she was “crying” it seemed like she actually was. Her voice is also so pretty! Though she doesn’t sing a lot, every time she did sing I got goosebumps.
I did enjoy this show but I feel like I would enjoy it more if I was younger. I would recommend this show to ages 3-10 because it’s very imaginative and targeted to younger audiences.
While this show has closed, you can see more like it at First Stage!
