A review of Dad's Season Tickets

Waukesha Civic Theatre’s Dad’s Season Tickets by Matt Zembrowski is a must-see for all sports and theatre fans! Dad’s Season Tickets does a great job of keeping the audience entertained while representing realistic family dynamics. The show itself is about the Kosinski family, a Wisconsin family that loves the Green Bay Packers! Throughout the show the Kosinksi sisters fight about who will inherit their father’s sacred season tickets.

One element of the production that I particularly enjoyed was how unique the experience of being an audience member at the show was. When I got there, the director, Justin Spanbauer, had put out thundersticks to make it feel like you were at a football game. Rather than clapping, the audience is encouraged to use the thundersticks to cheer on the actors! I think that this got the audience even more excited to see the show which helped the actors feed off of that energy.

I personally loved all of the characters and how they accurately represented the different personalities that you have in your own family. I felt like the actors did an amazing job showing all the varying dynamics between the characters, whether it was a sister trying to help bring her family back together or a husband and wife fighting over a lie that impacts their marriage. On top of this, the vocal performances given by all were phenomenal. I especially liked Mariah Kiefer, who played the youngest sister, Cordy, and radiated bittersweet in the song, Two Sides to Every Story.

The last thing I want to mention is how the show really is for everyone. As a theater lover, who doesn’t necessarily care for football, I found this show just as funny as all of the football lovers in the audience. With that said I also think that this show is especially cool for sports lovers because they can fully relate to the comedy within the show.

In my playbook, this show scores a touchdown! So, if you have time I fully recommend going to see Dad’s Season Tickets running from Sep 12th-28th at the Waukesha Civic Theatre, located in downtown Waukesha.
