A review of Dad's Season Tickets

by Jordan Staacke, age 11

Hi, my name is Jordan and this is my review about the musical Dad’s Season Tickets. In this review I will be covering how good the actors are, how funny the play is, and many more things. So sit back, relax, get yourself a snack, and enjoy the review.

The first thing that I really enjoyed was the actors. The play has very few actors, but you can tell that they are really experienced by their voice and their acting skills. I don’t know how they made such a good play with so few actors. In every scene, their characters feel like they are the characters. In their voices, you can just tell they have experience and have probably taken voice lessons.

The next thing I want to talk about is how hilarious the show is. Throughout the entire show the characters sometimes break the fourth wall and talk to the audience in a comedic way. And the characters are so funny and fit into their roles.

Something else I really like is the scenic design by Michael Talaska. I like that you could see the musicians up in the stands. Another thing I appreciated is that the set-up on stage is so realistic that it looks like a real house.

Next I want to say what I disliked in the play. Although I do like some aspects of the scenic design, I do wish it was quite bigger. In other plays they can switch the scene, but in this they stick with the same setup, so even when they do a scene change you can see the old scene still there. I also dislike that it is a small cast. With a Mainstage production, the stage is way too big for only six characters. When they’re acting up on the stage, it feels like they’re missing a majority of their actors, so I just think the play could have been better in a smaller space like the Black Box.

Finally to sum up the review, I give the play an overall 8/10. Any football lover would love this play and even if you don’t like football, it is still a great play and I would definitely recommend it. The music is very funny and the costumes (designed by Ashley Abshire) are very out there. In conclusion, Dad’s Season Tickets is a great play and is an absolute must-see for any theatre lover.

Dad's Season Tickets runs at the Waukesha Civic Theatre until September 28th.
