A review of Peter Pan and Wendy

by Lorelei Hardt, age 13

Tick Tock Tick Tock!!!!! I saw the Shadow Cast of Peter Pan and Wendy, produced by First Stage. This amazing story shows us Wendy, John, and Michael’s journey with Peter Pan through Neverland while meeting a terrible villain named Captain Hook. Can the group and the Lost boys fight off the evil Captain Hook and his crew, or will they walk the plank??

I was very excited to see this show knowing there were adults and younger kids in the cast. I loved seeing my friends Eloise Joseph (Young Wendy/Hush Lost One) and Luca Lombardo (Nibs Lost One). They both did an amazing job even if they were in smaller roles; you could tell that they worked so hard and they expressed their characters well.

One obvious thing I found so fascinating is how the effects were so clever throughout the show. The scenic design by Sarah Hunt-Frank was versatile: in many scenes they were on a pirate ship, but they also flipped the on-stage platforms and used them for the kids' beds in the Darlings' home. I felt it was very smart. I believe this show thrives in their props, puppets (designed by Nicki Kulas), and effects. The props that stood out to me the most were the crocodile and Tinker Bellthey were perfect. It made me believe that even the simplest idea can make such a big difference. Also the puppeteers were very smart in how they moved each character.

One thing that was negative was that there were not enough pauses between the narration to applaud the actors and actresses which was very well-deserved. For an opening night, though, I believe this was a great start. I can tell all actors big and small were well-prepared and so joyful to be onstage. Peter Pan and Wendy ran February 20-March 22, 2026 at the Todd Wehr Theater in Milwaukee.
