A review of Dad's Season Tickets

by Lucia E. Schrader, age 10

Hey, you guys! Are you a football fan? I’m not! The only football player I’ve ever heard of is Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. I am a ten-year-old girl who loves dancing, singing, acting, and doing gymnastics. But on Thursday night I found myself watching a musical about football….and I LOVED IT! I watched Dad’s Season Tickets at the Waukesha Civic Theatre. This musical is about a family who loves the Green Bay Packers. The sisters fight a lot about silly things, but at the end, they realize family is even more important than football!

All of the actors were great and made the audience laugh a lot. The main characters were Frank, his 2 grown-up daughters (Rhonda and Gabby) and their husbands (Ralph and Edgar), and his younger daughter (Cordy). My favorite character was Cordy, because she is really smart, she’s the youngest in the family, and helped solve her family’s problems. Every time Frank left the house, he would come back and open the door and yell “GO PACKERS” and then leave again. Edgar was really funny because he was very dramatic about everything – just like me! The actors that played Edgar and Gabby are married in real life too!

This musical had a lot of fun songs. There was a real orchestra and they were even wearing Packer clothing and fun hats. I really liked the song “Football is Like Love,” where Cordy and some other family members sang “Yes”  and “No” by being echoes - it was really funny.

The set (designed by Michael Talaska) and props (designed by Amy Carriveau) made everything come to life. The house was amazing! They had a lot of fun props like a real football and a decorated Christmas tree! They used recordings like an announcer saying “Touchdown!” There was a bin of thunder sticks for the audience to take. We got to clap them together to make extra noise when we were clapping. This made it extra fun to be in the audience!

Dad’s Season Tickets is a funny musical that is good for anyone who loves the Packers, hates the Packers, or doesn’t even know what sport the Packers play! If you like football, music, thunder sticks, Christmas, dads, or loud cheering…then go see Dad’s Season Tickets at the Waukesha Civic Theatre through September 28th!
