A review of Dad's Season Tickets

The Waukesha Civic Theatre’s Dad’s Season TicketsĀ is a fun-filled musical comedy made to make you laugh. The book, music, and lyrics by Matt Zembrowski and direction by Justin Spanbauer were great. It’s a story about two sisters, Rhonda (Jenavive Plutz) and Gabby (Sierra Rottier), fighting over who deserves their dad’s very important Packers season tickets.

Gabby is married to a very professional English professor, Edgar (John Rottier), whose favorite color is purple, while Rhonda is married to a very excited Green Bay Packers fan, Ralph (Mark Thompson), who has a very special jersey. Frank (Bob Zimmerman) is the OG Packer fan of the family; he cares so much about his family and his youngest daughter Cordy (Mariah Kiefer) getting into colleges from Madison to Alaska.

Being born and raised in Wisconsin, I was very proud of the show. It made me laugh every second. The boom sticks they handed out to the audience were an awesome touch. One of my favorite parts was the people going through the aisles. It was very funny.Ā

I do think the actors could pronounce and enunciate their words during their songs when singing a bit more. I’m not sure if this was the actors or if the sound needed to be tweaked. At times, it was hard to comprehend what they were saying/singing. I feel that would bring the audience more into the story.

Overall, I think this is a great Wisconsin-themed musical about family and getting back together when times are difficult.

Waukesha Civic Theatre’s Dad’s Season Tickets is currently playing until Sept. 28.
